The theme for our upcoming March/Spring issue: 

 

Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom in)

 

We would love to see snapshots of small moments. Imagine you are taking a snapshot of the moment that you want to describe. Use the zoom lens! 

 

Examples: 

 

A conversation with a close friend

 

A brief moment in history with your take on it

 

A dream or nightmare

 

A brief moment of dialogue

 

A flash fiction piece about a moment in time, a memory, an experience

 

A creative nonfiction piece about a memory

 

Photographs, drawings or paintings that evoke a feeling of familiarity or intrigue

A moment not usually documented

Nature

Expression

A thought

GENERAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION

Tipping the Scales Literary Journal

 

We accept work by lesbians only. We want to hear about your life, your feelings, your love and anything else you want to tell us about. We are a feminist journal and we want to see work by, for, and about lesbians. Please read the guidelines below carefully and follow our theme Snapshot of a moment (Zoom-in).

Although we fully and wholeheartedly support, accept and love all identities of our LGBTQ family, at this time we are only accepting work from lesbians for the Tipping the Scales Literary Journal. However, submissions are open to all women for:

 

She Speaks & our Hour of Women's Literature Film

 

We accept work by all women. She speaks is a division of TTS for spoken word poetry, fiction and non-fiction. 

Submit a HIGH-QUALITY audio or video file of yourself reading your work for us to include on the YouTube channel and/or for our Hour of Women's Literature Film (please note which you are submitting to).

If you would be more comfortable with a professional actress performing your work on your behalf, please let us know in your email as this can be arranged.

The video will be released on Amazon Prime for rent & to buy in both SD and HD formats.

Please let us know whether you are submitting to the journal, She Speaks etc. in the subject line.

 

 

Please include a brief cover letter, a third-person bio of up to 150 words, any social media or contact details you would like us to promote, and a photograph of yourself, or a photograph that represents you.

Submissions must be double spaced and typed in easy to read fonts, such as Times New Roman or Ariel. 

Please send your work as .doc, .docx attachments only. Submissions in other formats will not be accepted.

Please send all of your work in one document. If you are sending written work with accompanying artwork, please make sure both writing and artwork are together in the same document.

We accept simultaneous submissions. (Please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere)

We are a new journal, and we wish we could pay our contributors, as we like to be paid for our work, but at this time we are unable to pay. This may change in the future.

We highly encourage women of all ages to submit, particularly women over 50.

We will not accept works which include the following themes:  Extreme religion, homophobia, violence towards women, children or animals, erotica or pornographic texts or images. If you have work that may be considered triggering or offensive, please note the details of this in your cover letter.

Poetry

TTS Theme: Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in)

We love all forms of poetry: free verse, long-form, haiku, well-crafted rhyming poetry, ekphrastic poetry, blackout poetry and any kind of experimental poetry.

 

Please send 1-5 poems in one document.

(Please note: if you are sending art or photography with your poetry, please include that in the same document as your poem).

Fiction

TTS Theme: Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in)

Literary fiction only. No sci-fi, fantasy, erotica, etc.

Flash fiction (150-1,000 words)

Short stories (1,000-1,500 words)

Submit up to 3 short stories or flash fiction piece in one document.

Non-Fiction

TTS Theme: Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in). We welcome any kind of creative non-fiction that follows our theme of Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in).

Please submit up to 3 pieces of non-fiction (up to 1,000 words each piece) 

Artwork

We want your art to be colourful and expressive. We welcome any form of art by and for lesbians. We will not accept pornographic or explicit images. Our theme is Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in)

 

Please send up to 5 pieces of artwork for consideration.

Photography

Please send us your best photography on the theme of Snapshots of a Moment (Zoom-in) We would love to feature lesbian photographers who also send written work.

We will not accept pornographic or explicit images.

Please send up to 5 photographs for consideration.

Image files should be in .JPG, .EPS, .PSD, .TIF, or .PDF and in CMYK or Grayscale color mode!
